View photos - Gairs trip report: "I departed West Seattle at 6:30 AM in Mike and Kate Burn's camper van. I was driving to Cortes Island in British Columbia, Canada to meet our good friends Ted Burns and Sarah Layman to cruise for 9 days aboard their 50 foot Ocean Alexander yacht, the Sanwan. Ted and Sarah had departed Seattle nine days earlier, heading north. They took aboard Ted's cousin Mike Burns and wife Kate at the wedding of Ted's sister Becky at their family's home on East Sound, Orcas Island in the San Juans.

SANWAN Cruise with Ted & Sarah to Poulsbo (via Bainbridge Island)

View photos - On September 20, 2002 Hannchen and Gair met our longtime close friends Ted Burns and Sarah Layman on their new Ocean Alexander 50 yacht, the SANWAN, for a weekend of boating on Washington's Puget Sound.
The four of us spent a beautiful and most enjoyable weekend circumnavigating Bainbridge Island (Gair's family's home for over 35 years), mooring Saturday night at the Poulsbo Yacht Club in the Norwegian/American community of Poulsbo.
Saturday afternoon we toured the antique wooden yachts that had rendezvoused there for the week, strolled through picturesque Poulsbo. Following a gourmet dinner prepared by first mate Sarah, Gair was taught how to lose badly at dominos, a very humbling experience. Gair loved getting beat so badly, he came back for another beating on the afterdeck Sunday morning.
Weather was perfect, as was the time with Ted and Sarah on such a comfortable ship.
A luxurious 50 foot yacht sure is a huge step up from Gair's former little sailboats.
